Becoming That Person
The confidence you keep waiting to feel is built, not found
Okay, that person. Yes, you.
I need to tell you about the biggest lie I ever told myself, because I think you might be telling yourself the same one.
The lie was that I was okay. That I was happy. I wrapped it in body positive language, told everyone "yeah, I'm rocking this extra weight," or "I love drinking, it's not a problem for me!" and put on a fake confidence that never once felt real. Underneath it I felt so insecure, so uncomfortable in my own skin, that I needed five drinks in me before I could dance in public or speak my truth. The alcohol let me take off the masks. Without it, I hid.
I pretended I did not want the things I wanted most. Real passionate love. To feel sexy and feminine and desired. To have eyes on me. To be the main character. To speak on stages. I told myself those things were for other people, lucky people, people who were born with it. And I sat on the sidelines of my own life and called it contentment.
If any of that landed, then you are exactly who I made this for. And you need to hear who you actually are. You are a rebel soul, someone who came here to break the cycle and do things differently, which is why the small, safe, sidelined version of life never fit you. It was never supposed to.
The truth about confidence
Confidence is not a feeling you wait to arrive. It is not a personality you were or were not born with. It is a byproduct of who you decide to be, and the reps you put in as that person.
When I started dancing without alcohol with a room full of retired strangers who did not care what anyone thought, something activated in me. Not because I suddenly felt confident. I felt terrified. But every week I went back, and every week the confidence came a little more naturally, because I was embodying a new identity. I was that girl who danced. Then I was that girl who danced sober. Then the girl who danced while making eye contact with everyone in the room. And the more I did it, the more my nervous system learned that it was safe to be seen.
That is the whole mechanism. You do the uncomfortable, scary thing on purpose, over and over, until the person who does it easily is just who you are by default. That person was always in there. We just forced them to do the scary things enough times that they stopped needing to be forced.
The identity work
Confidence building is deep identity work, so let me ask you the questions I had to answer for myself. Do not rush these. Write your answers down.
1. Who are you at your core, on your most confident day? Not who you perform. The real one underneath. How do you carry yourself? What do you wear? How do you speak to people? What do you no longer apologize for?
2. What have you pretended not to want because you did not believe you could have it? Name it plainly. The love, the attention, the stage, the body, the dream. Pretending you do not want it is just fear wearing a disguise.
3. Where are you still performing "I'm okay"? Find the place you are faking contentment to stay safe and comfortable. That is the exact place your real life is waiting.
4. What would that person do this week that you have been avoiding? One thing. Something a little scary.
The one rep that builds it fastest
Reflection alone will not do it. Confidence is built in the body, in the doing. So here is your assignment: this week, do one thing that puts eyes on you and scares you a little. Dance where someone can see you. Post the video. Send the text. Speak up in the room. Wear the thing you have been hiding under.
You will want to close your eyes and hope nobody is watching. Do not. I spent years hoping nobody was watching. Now I make eye contact, I smile at everyone, and I am proud when people watch me. That did not come from feeling ready. It came from the reps.
Tell your nervous system, through action, that it is safe to be seen. That is how you become that person.
This is just the beginning
Becoming That Person is one of five methods inside Fully Alive. You can start answering these questions today. But the reps are so much easier in a room full of people who see the real you before you fully see that version of you yourself, who cheer you on, and who remind you who you are on the days you forget.
If you are ready to stop performing "okay" and become them for real, tap the button below and put your name on the Fully Alive list. I will send you the next step.
Get in. We are going on a journey.
